Berneron Mirage - Realized

Apr 15, 2024,18:19 PM

A little over seven (7) months ago, I created a thread concerning the Mirage, the first watch from Sylvain Berneron's eponymous brand.

To me, this is the most exciting watch that I saw on my Instagram feed last week.
My initial post has greater details.  Given that I created the initial thread, I thought it would only be proper to supplement it:

If you are interested in learning more, I think an interview at On the Dash is worth a read.

To reiterate on my last post, so do I!

A little quirk never hurt anyone.

I love

How the aesthetics of the movement mirrors the dial! What an amazingly complete design!

Your observation about it being a "complete" design is a good one.

Unfortunately, it is a rare occurrence nowadays that every component of a watch feels considered!

I think even the founder noted that it is expensive - however...

When you add everything up it makes sense: Completely new, shaped movement. Completely new, shaped case. Interesting "complication" with inverted hand stack. Solid gold movement. Shaped hands. Etc.

GORGEOUS! HUGE CONGRATS!

...since I first saw it. Not boring!

I agree, it certainly is not boring.

It is about time for some excitement!

Yes, I love the shaped watches of the past, as well.

But if you read the On the Dash interview, he interestingly distinguishes the Crash from the Mirage as the starting point for each watch was very different. It is a great read if you have the time.

I love the creativity and size of this watch

I don't like the price though which is the only reason why I have not pulled the trigger. I always ask myself before buying anything what is the opportunity cost. But this is indeed a very special watch and Sylvian is a great guy as I have corresponded wi...

I discussed the price above...

$50,000, give or take, is a lot of money for any watch. In my view, the price is commensurate with what has gone into the watch. But that, of course, is a calculation only the purchaser can make!

I was informed by a watchmaker

that bending the balance bridge and making that movement was not so difficult. The price of labour to finish the movement however is quite subjective. I am no expert in these matters things so pricing is always relative. Some who have ordered the watch I ...

I am surprised by how much I like this watch

Pure class in my opinion. Would look great with a suit, tuxedo or even a polo shirt with chinos. Ahhh…but the price, always the price! Still, very lovely.

This is one of those watches that grabbed me the first time I saw a rendering.

It is always special when a watch elicits an emotional reaction.

Probably my favorite watch over the last year

Can't wait to see the final version start popping up

We share that sentiment! Although it may be more than a year for me.

I think that we will be seeing these pop up before too long! Maybe a month or so.

Looks awesome
